Myopia Control - Using MiyoSmart Lenses in Spectacles.
MiyoSmart lenses are a new option in the fight against myopia (near-sightedness).
"Myopia control" is the slowing of the progression of near-sightedness in children. As myopia progresses, a person's near-sightedness worsens, and the eyeball generally increases in length. This will cause distance vision to become blurry and can increase the risk of certain ocular diseases.
MiyoSmart lenses are spectacle lenses that can be made into children's eyewear. These lenses incorporate their prescription and help to slow the progression of myopia at the same time. MiyoSmart lenses employ DIMS (Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments) technology. This technology has a central area of prescribed focus power with multiple peripheral areas of defocus which helps slow the worsening of the prescription.
Research has shown that DIMS lenses can slow the progression of myopia (near-sightedness) by over 50% and axial length (length of the eyeball) by 60% over a 2yr period*.
